The famous pizzica salentina has very ancient origins, dating back to Dionysian cults: during the festivities, people publicly indulged in exaggerated behavior, aided by wine.
The pizzica is the dance to get rid of the poison of the taranta (the “tarantula” spider), a hypnotic, unrestrained, sensual dance that is danced in pairs.
“La Notte della Taranta” is Italy’s largest travelling festival that lights up the villages of Salento with rhythm and fosters the meeting of the arts. An event that has helped spread the international fame of this popular music, tarantism, the Griko dialect and Salento traditions.

The evening will be held inside a splendid masseria, a stunning location lighted up by the magic of artist’s illuminations that will serve as an amphitheater for the dances and songs of the famous Salento pizzica.
